Haile Thomas is no ordinary 12 year old. I first featured her as a Goddess of the Month when she was only 10 years old and already by then, she had a long list of credentials and accomplishments. The last two years have been filled with visits to the White House, numerous speeches including sharing the stage with Deepak Chopra, television appearances on the Today Show, The Chew and others, as well as helping the Hyatt Regency revamp their children’s menu with healthier food choices. And today, she shows no signs of slowing down. She has just launched a new non-profit organization, HAPPY – Healthy Active Positive Purposeful Youth that she co-founded with her mother, Charmaine. The YWCA has joined forces to provide office space, conference rooms for educational presentations and a plot of land to grow a Little Chef’s Garden – a hands-on experience for kids to learn about food, how it is grown and how good it can taste when it is fresh, clean and grown with loving hands. There is no limit to what Haile will do in this lifetime and her words of advice to young and old alike is to follow your passion as there is no telling where it will lead you… perhaps even facetime with the President. Love the acronym HAPPY and I applaud everyone who educates children about food and health as early as possible. As the grown up generation we have so much catching up to do on that – it’s great that someone takes initiative to make this easier for the next generation!
