Even as a happily married mother of two and a school psychologist, Sarah How realized she did not have enough experience and education to incorporate two adoptive children into their lives. Sarah knew she was not handling the situation in the healthiest manner possible, yet she didn’t know where to turn. That is when she was introduced to the Nurtured Heart Approach by Howard Glasser and it turned her whole life around — her work, her home life, and the legacy she is creating to leave behind.
Sarah learned she was unintentionally ‘celebrating’ the negative by giving so much more time, attention and focus with lectures and pep talks for poor behavior and very little acknowledgement for their incremental steps in the right direction. In this video, Sarah explains the difference between verbal ‘junk food’ and providing not only our children, but all humans with proper, nutritious feedback and accolades celebrating who they really are, their core essence. Sara is in the beginning stages of working with other advanced trainers in the Nurtured Heart Approach to discover open doors to move this way of intentional living to several other countries. Stay tuned for future updates.
Sarah released her children’s book “Tell Me About Your Greatness” in November of 2012 which caught the attention of many worldwide and is soon to be released in the UK.
“Tell Me About Your Greatness” is available through Amazon and Sarah can be contacted through her business, Opendoor Consulting. [email protected]; opendoorfargo.com where she offers seminars and training, academic and professional inservices, foster and adoption training and parent coaching.
In this video, you will learn where to begin to improve your relationships with everyone you come in contact. And the place to start, just may surprise you.
Sheila! what an inspirational post and video. I soooooo appreciate this differentiation between praise and true acknowledgment. I call this witnessing… to specifically address how what you do touches me specifically, and what it means to me.
And yes to. intentional living! “to what you are bringing in and what you are putting out to the world… I am walking through life with more purpose and intention..”
Thank you for this Sheila. I so appreciate you bringing these wise women and their ways to us!
I love the thought of emotional nutrition! Talking to people and helping to change the world in a small, yet intentional way is powerful. Being in the moment is super powerful. Sometimes I do find that I don’t like what I am thinking or doing, so it is cool to know I can quickly return to the best person I can be….in any moment! Thanks for this wonderful post!
