Goddess Featured Guest ~ Howard Glasser

This month I am breaking the tradition of Goddess of the Month to bring you a truly inspiring man who is making a difference in this world by educating parents, teachers, therapists, counselors, etc on an effective technique to bring out the greatest qualities in children and adults alike. Howard Glasser is an author, psychologist, speaker, trainer and creator of the Nurtured Heart Approach and his technique is changing lives and making the world a better place for all of us. I met Howard in a yoga class and believe it was divine intervention to learn of his work – which is true brilliance – in order to share it with all of you. Watch the video to hear from his perspective how traditional forms of counseling families with intense children were inadvertently rewarding negative behavior and how listening to his ‘quirky’ thoughts revealed a different approach which has proven highly successful time and time again.

To learn more about the Nurtured Heart Approach’s success in schools and what is next on the horizon for expanding his message, watch this video …

Howard has authored many award winning books including, but not limited to, Transforming the Difficult Child – True Stories of Triumph, All Children Flourishing – Igniting the Greatness of our Children, Notching Up the Nurtured Heart Approach – The New Inner Wealth Initiative for Educators. • WOW, this is amazing, I am a huge fan of Howard and his love for the child or children that often fall between the cracks. What a remarkable human being his journey into his work is magical. I intend to do some research on his work seeing that I love the arena of education and I am a mom. Thanks for showcasing Howard’s work, delightful indeed!

  • Thank you, Shay and Nasrine, I agree, Howard is an amazing man and his work is really making an incredible difference so I wanted to help spread his message. I am so grateful you took the time to learn more. Thank you!

  • Oh I love learning about new approaches that teach or shape children to become healthy, happy, successful adults. I’m saying “new” because I have not been familiar with Howard’s work before. I love that his approach is based on love and compassion and prevents children from falling into the same negative patterns as the adults around them. I’m sure a lot of it can be used on adults, too 🙂

  • Thank you so much for introducing us to Howard. I absolutely adore his gentle approach to children’s counselling and leaving all of that intense, tough love behind. It is so nice that someone has been able to break through to these children in a loving way. So much to be learned by his approach with children. Agree with Anja above. This approach can probably also be used on adults!

  • Absolutely beautiful and powerful message! Thank you for introducing me to Howard, I admire him and his work. Wow…with people like Howard working tirelessly and his passion for his Nurtured Heart Approach, can you imagine a world where our schools teach kids with a heart centered approach and energy alignment. I’m getting goosebumps thinking about that.

And, Sheila, you are so right about this being meant for everybody. So many adults are missing this from their lives. Imagine a world where we are all heart centered. I do believe we are at the start of a movement towards that world.

Thank you for expanding my world!

  • We can “accidentally celebrate negativity” – oh my, how true that is. I know that the energy level is more palpable when I move to the negative. It can be harder to have that vibe on the positive side – probably due to the default setting that Howard described (even if most of us don’t want to think of ourselves that way).

I know that we have worked hard as parents to have the 110% attention on the positive conversations, and that we actually have to make these opportunities (whereas the negative ones just show up nicely on their own). Howard’s view and work are so needed at all levels – and I completely agree with the other comments that it could benefit adults as well!

  • Hi Sheila, I have most of his books, and have taken a Nurtured Heart class through Nativity. Still working through this with Grant!
The Fargo Public Schools have a Nurtured Heart facilitator and this is the model for their discipline ideal. So cool that you connected with this amazing man!

  • Good to ‘see’ you Sue! Yes, when I first met Howard and mentioned I was from Fargo, he commented on how he has an even larger following in Fargo than Tucson. I guess that speaks volumes about our hometown! 😉 I met some amazing teachers, therapists and counselors from Fargo here for the Advanced Training program in January – wonderful people, I could hook you up!

  • What an absolute honor it has been to get to share some of my thoughts and to be a part of the Goddess world for these wonderful moments with you all. I so appreciate all you are doing to move us all into new realms of greatness.
    To Your Greatness!
    Howard

  • It was great to hear your interview with Howard. I thought you would be happy to hear many educators in the West Fargo, Fargo area have been trained in Nurtured Heart. Our whole South Elementary staff as well as many elementary staff in the district have been trained in Nurtured Heart. We are continuing to monitor and grow our implementation of Nurtured Heart. We have had lots of possitive feedback from parents. Many parents have elected to participate in the parent training. We have also had area therapistsexcited to hear we are using Nurtured Heart school-wide.
