The Muses ~ Inspirational Greek goddesses of the arts and sciences

The Muses are sister goddesses who inspire beauty, art, music, philosophy and creative passion. They love to eat, drink, play and celebrate, and do so as a reminder of the importance of lifting the spirits and allowing creativity to be set free. The nine Muses each had their own area of expertise, but all inspired others to be fully alive and creative, and to express their passions with delight and abandon.

Inviting the Muses into the Modern Goddess’ world
1) The Muses were described as being care free. According to the ancient writer, Hesiod, “For though a man has sorrow and grief in his soul, when the servant of the Muses sing, at once he forgets his dark thoughts and remembers not his troubles.” Release your cares and worries and watch your creativity and dreams unfold.
2) Seek to be a Muse in the life of another. Lift her higher than she dares to go alone. Be the light that helps another forget his troubles. Bring inspiration and joy into the life of someone else and celebrate the results together.
3) If you feel alone or isolated, seek out “sisters” who support and raise each other up, always seeking the greater good of one another. There are so many women who wish they could find such a group. Gather women from various walks of life who can share their stories and inspire others based on their own life experiences. The Grateful Goddess Clubs are a good place to start.  If there is not a club in your area,  you can charter your own and pull like-minded Muses together. We’ll help you get started…everyone benefits from friendships such as those created in an environment of authenticity, cooperation and love.
4) The Muses discovered letters and are thus the creators of poetry and writing. Look around yourself at the beauty, art, humor, friendship, whatever it is that brings you joy. Write in celebration of it. Allow the Muses to inspire your words, and don’t judge, but write and create with joyful abandon. Express your gratitude and you will have written a creative masterpiece, literally, as the words go out into the universe and the Law of Attraction is put to work. It may be as simple as writing appreciation in the Gratitude Journal within this website (go to GAB with Goddesses). Join in company of grateful women who support and encourage your self-expression.

Get comfortable. Relax and breathe. Breathe in the sunlight, exhale the fog…again. As the fog lifts, you find that you are walking through a beautiful green forest. It is full fresh and alive, with chirping squirrels telling each other of your arrival, and birds singing and swirling above you in delight at the sight of you. You can hear the tap-tap-tap of a woodpecker as she creates a home in the side of a tree. You duck, unafraid, as a bumblebee buzzes by, legs laden with pollen that will ignite the creative processes of the fruit trees. You feel so blessed to be an integral part of creativity, as both the created and the creator.
You come across a babbling stone brook reflecting the emerald trees and the sapphire sky. The water is diamond clear, and you watch as a rainbow trout, heavy with eggs, happily wiggle downstream with the current. Like the fish you, too, are in the creative flow, easing downstream with the current, resisting nothing. Stand in the book and feel the cool rush of water nourishing you; feel the breeze awakening your skin; feel the sunlight warm you; feel yourself growing and flowing in the direction of your dreams. All dreams are creative and in this glorious forest of regeneration and creativity that grows within you, you find the inspiration necessary to realize them.
You become aware that you are not alone. Nine beautiful women dressed in iridescent sheer colors of sunlight and rainbows are walking toward you. Three step forward and you look deeply into each other’s eyes; theirs are the color of lilacs, lavender-blue with sparkles of pink,  at once romantic and tragic. They are Calliope, muse of epic poetry, Erato, muse of love poetry, and Euterpe, muse of lyric poetry. They invite you to look at the richly poetic beauty in life and love. They inspire you to live and to express it.
Clio, muse of history, steps forward. Her ebony eyes draw you in through their depth of understanding. She kisses your forehead with the wisdom gleaned over the ages, and inspires you to use this wisdom today in creation of a rich and loving history, a legacy.
Melapomene, muse of tragedy, step forth offering you her heart. She inspires you to use the drama of life to teach and enrich others as you artfully share stories with great emotion. Polyhymnia, muse of songs of praise, raises her angelic voice inspiring you to express yourself to the heavens in appreciation and love, as Terpsichore, muse of dance, swirls around you in an uninhibited physical expression of joy.
Thalia, muse of comedy, watches in delight as the muses light your way. Her laughter is contagious and you join her in enthusiastic laughter and celebration for what is and what is to come, while Urania, the muse of astronomy, illuminates the star that is within you…the star the IS you, and is now prepared to shine her creative light that is you. You are inspired to become all that you dream of being, and an inspiration to others as you become it…you, too, are a muse.
